 The Perinatal Wellness Coalition promotes community collaboration to support families from preconception through early childhood for Santa Barbara County. PWC serves to increase access to perinatal services for mental health and substance use through education, prevention, screening and advocacy.

3.  Perinatal Substance Use (and/or PPD) – project planning.  PSU Panel, Topic and Speakers, Time frame and advertising

  • Sandra gave an update on Panel responses- Elisa Gottheil has agreed to speak on Perinatal Substance Use issue in our county.

  • SB CADA- Anna Rodriguez-Sullivan, Fighting Back Edwin Weaver is interested, not committed yet. Villa Magella-Kelly Kennedy (Kelly@villamagella.org 805-683-2838), Casa Serena Sandra Mistretta, North County Perinatal Substance Programs Donna Flores and SBCH – Dr. LeRenard, have not responded. We will ask

  • Kelley has reserved the Buellton Community Center for Wednesday February 22nd.

  • Plan on 2.5 -3 hours.

  • A flyer is needed.  Sandra will draft a flyer once speakers are in place.

  • Preparation and expectations from speakers – within their scope of practice

    • Where does your organization fit in the continuum of care for perinatal substance use?

    • What is your approach in talking to mothers about perinatal substance use?

    • How does your organization work with relapse prevention?

    • How does your organization deal with compliance vs. behavior change?

    • How do you address past trauma?

    • Is there a use of evidence-based practice and if so can you speak about this?

    • What are the challenges of this disease and in the SB recovery community?

    • How do you address bias in the recovery community?


 4.  Dignity Health PPD program Update - Kelley Barragan/SCopley (and) Video-conferencing Meeting – Deborah Holmes

  • Deborah Holmes states videoconferencing will be in place by next meeting.  Dignity will need Skype Business and the meeting will move to an upstairs room.

  • Discussed Dignity Stakeholder meeting, objectives, potential PEP involvement and future community interventions that will be needed.


5. Website pwcofsb.org update – Sandra Copley

  • Published  and needs further advertising

  • Sandra asks that members share the site.  She will send through FB and email.

  • ‘Events’ and ‘News’ tabs added.

  • Private practitioners will be included as a plan of action.
