 The Perinatal Wellness Coalition promotes community collaboration to support families from preconception through early childhood for Santa Barbara County. PWC serves to increase access to perinatal services for mental health and substance use through education, prevention, screening and advocacy.

  4. Discuss transition of officers and funding

    • Sandra Copley has stepped down as Chair.  Kelley Barragan will assume Chair of PWC responsibilities.

    • Transfer of payment source for domain and website will be needed.

    • Sandra will transfer responsibility and train Kelley on PWC website and PWC gmail account.

    • Monies have been transferred to Kelley for a PWC account.

    • Discussion:

      • Under the umbrella of MCAH and possibly tie it into Kids Network

      • Maintaining focus on PMAD and Perinatal Substance Use.

      • Reevaluate goals and objectives

      • Move meetings to Santa Maria where the momentum

      • Expand the population we work with, including indigenous population

      • Visioning of doing a workshop with Dignity Health or other North County entity to Collectively decide what is needed in the North County community

        1. Examples are peer led support

      • Continue with the goal of setting up a workshop or conference on the Public Health Implications of Marijuana.

    • Kelley Barragan will schedule further meeting dates and a new venue.

    • No further meetings are scheduled in SB at CALM.

  5. CPSP Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders and Perinatal Substance Use Screening Survey – CPSP Coordinator Kelley Barragan sent all CPSP OB providers a survey. 21/28 replied.  Kelley will publicize survey results when complete.  In general, screening is done by many providers. Santa Maria OB providers and staff and will need further training.

  6. Update on screenings of the film ‘Resilience’.  Extremely successful with requests for more showings and discussion.

Member Updates

Jane discussed the history of peer led support (PEP) and Postpartum International, both of which she founded.  She currently has a curriculum to train communities.  She and Shoshona Bennett have trained many of the existing peer led programs.
